The Test That Won't Come Back "Normal"

blog post 11.8

If you’ve ever heard the words, “Everything looks normal,” while knowing in your heart that something still isn’t right with your child, you’re not alone.

We hear it every week at Foundation of Stone Pediatric & Perinatal Family Chiropractic.

“All of the labs were normal.”

“The MRI didn’t show anything.”

“We finally got a diagnosis… but no one can tell us why it’s happening.”

Parents aren’t looking for another label. They’re looking for answers.

Because when your baby isn’t sleeping, your toddler melts down over every little change, your child struggles with constipation, focus, sensory processing, or anxiety, it doesn’t feel “normal”—regardless of what the test results say.

The reality is this: most healthcare testing is designed to detect disease. It isn’t designed to measure how well your child’s nervous system is functioning.

And that’s the system running everything else.

The One System Most Healthcare Never Measures

Your child’s nervous system is the foundation for every other system in the body.

It’s what coordinates digestion, sleep, movement, immune function, emotional regulation, attention, learning, and development. Every heartbeat, every breath, every milestone, and every response to the world is directed through the nervous system.

That’s why we say healthy families start with a strong foundation.

If the foundation isn’t functioning well, the rest of the house has a much harder time doing what it was designed to do.

Think about it this way.

If the electrical system in your home wasn’t working properly, you wouldn’t replace every light bulb—you’d check the wiring.

The nervous system is your child’s wiring.

Yet it’s one of the few systems that is rarely evaluated before families are told to “wait and see.”

Your Child Is More Than a Diagnosis

Many of the families we care for have already done everything they were told to do.

They’ve met with specialists.

They’ve tried therapy.

They’ve changed diets.

They’ve added supplements.

They’ve invested countless hours trying to help their child.

Those pieces can all be incredibly valuable.

But if no one has looked at the nervous system, there may still be an important piece of the puzzle missing.

We aren’t interested in chasing symptoms.

We want to understand why your child’s body is struggling in the first place.

Why We Use Neurological INSiGHT Scans

At Foundation of Stone Pediatric & Perinatal Family Chiropractic, every patient begins with a set of Neurological INSiGHT Scans.

These scans allow us to objectively measure how the nervous system is functioning before we ever begin care.

Even more importantly, we repeat them throughout care—typically every 12 visits—so we can measure progress instead of simply guessing based on symptoms.

Because while symptoms matter, they don’t always tell the whole story.

Sometimes children begin sleeping better before digestion changes.

Sometimes emotional regulation improves before sensory challenges.

Sometimes parents don’t realize how much progress has been made until they compare their scans.

Objective measurements help us see those changes as the nervous system heals and adapts.

What Are We Actually Measuring?

The scans evaluate how efficiently your child’s nervous system is communicating.

Healthy communication means the brain can receive information from the body, process it appropriately, and send clear instructions back out.

When that communication gets disrupted, something we call subluxation and dysautonomia shows up as stuck tension, poor coordination, and disorganized function throughout the body.

Instead of smoothly shifting between “go” and “rest,” it may stay locked in survival mode.

When that happens, we often see challenges with the very things babies and children should be doing with ease.

Eating.

Sleeping.

Pooping.

Moving.

Those are some of the earliest neurological stories we pay attention to because they’re often the first signs that the nervous system needs support.

The Three INSiGHT Scans

Each scan gives us a different piece of your child’s neurological story.

NeuroThermal Scan

This scan evaluates how the autonomic nervous system is functioning by measuring temperature patterns along the spine.

It helps us identify areas where stress may be interfering with digestion, sleep, immune function, and overall regulation.

NeuroSpinal EMG Scan

This scan measures muscle activity along the spine.

It shows us whether the nervous system is holding excessive tension or struggling with coordination and adaptability.

These patterns are commonly seen in children dealing with sensory challenges, ADHD, anxiety, developmental delays, or chronic stress.

Heart Rate Variability (HRV) Scan

HRV measures how adaptable the nervous system is.

A healthy nervous system should be able to respond to life’s everyday stressors—and then recover efficiently.

Children with lower adaptability often struggle with regulation, transitions, sleep, resilience, and emotional flexibility.

As the nervous system becomes healthier, we frequently see HRV improve alongside real-life changes at home.

Development Is About More Than Milestones

A baby can technically roll over on time.

A toddler can technically start walking.

A child can technically meet developmental milestones.

But development is about so much more than checking boxes.

It’s about how the nervous system is developing underneath those milestones.

Are they moving with coordination?

Are they sleeping well?

Are they digesting well?

Are they regulating emotions appropriately?

Because milestones aren’t just accomplishments.

They’re neurological assessments.

They tell the story of how the brain and body are working together.

Trust Your Instincts

Parents know their children better than anyone else.

If you’ve felt like something has been off—even after hearing that everything is “normal”—it’s okay to keep asking questions.

Trusting your instincts doesn’t mean assuming something is wrong.

It means recognizing that your child deserves to have their nervous system evaluated, especially when it controls so many aspects of their health and development.

Healthy Families Start With a Strong Foundation

Our goal isn’t simply to help your child feel better.

It’s to help their nervous system function better.

Because when the nervous system becomes healthier, the body has a greater ability to heal, adapt, regulate, and develop the way it was designed to.

That’s why we measure it.

That’s why we track it.

And that’s why so many families finally feel like they’re getting answers instead of simply being told to wait.

If you’re ready to better understand your child’s nervous system, we’d love to walk through their INSiGHT Scans with you and help connect the dots. Whether your family is navigating colic, constipation, ADHD, sensory challenges, anxiety, sleep struggles, or simply wants to build a healthier foundation, we’re here to help. If you are not local to us, check out the PX Docs directory to find a PX Docs office near you.

Healthy families start with a strong foundation—and it all begins with the nervous system.
