We hear it from parents in our office almost every week:
“We’ve seen so many specialists. We’ve done all the tests. But no one can tell us why our child is struggling.”
If this sounds familiar, please know you are not alone.
Many of the families who walk through our doors have already done blood work, imaging, specialist visits, and evaluations. Yet their child may still be experiencing things like:
-
Frequent ear infections
-
Speech delays
-
Sensory challenges
-
Difficulty focusing
-
Emotional meltdowns
-
Sleep struggles
-
Digestive issues
And despite all of those tests… everything comes back “normal.”
Yet as a parent, you know something still isn’t right.
So what’s missing?
The Important Piece Most Tests Don’t Measure
Traditional medical testing is designed to look for disease or structural problems. These tests ask questions like:
-
Is there damage?
-
Is there a disease process?
-
Is there something medically dangerous happening?
Those tests are incredibly important. However, here’s a sobering statistic: nearly 1 in 12 children in the U.S. has a speech or language condition. The vast majority of these children have normal blood work, MRIs, and EEGs.
What the tests usually don’t measure is something equally important:
How well your child’s nervous system is actually functioning.
Your child’s nervous system controls everything:
-
Sleep
-
Digestion
-
Immune system
-
Emotional regulation
-
Focus
-
Coordination
-
Development
-
Behavior
You could think of it like the air traffic controller of the body. When the nervous system is balanced and communicating well, everything else tends to function more smoothly.
But if the nervous system is stuck in a stress pattern, the body can struggle — even if traditional tests look normal.
Why “Normal” Results Don’t Always Mean Everything Is Functioning Well
A helpful way to think about this is with a simple comparison.
Imagine a car.
A mechanic might confirm that the car isn’t totaled and that the engine technically runs. But that doesn’t mean it’s running smoothly. It might stall, shake, or struggle to accelerate.
In the same way, many children don’t have a disease or structural damage. But their nervous system may be under stress and not coordinating the body efficiently.
When that happens, challenges with sleep, digestion, focus, emotions, and development can show up.
A Story That Shows Why This Matters
One family we worked with had a newborn baby who began experiencing spasms whenever he was laid on his back. They were terrified to even change his diaper. His parents were understandably terrified. Braxton was just one week old when his parents were told he needed to be evaluated for seizures and infantile spasms.
They were referred to specialists and told he would likely need further neurological testing. The wait for the hospital evaluation was several weeks long.
During that time, the family chose to have INSiGHT scans performed to look at how their baby’s nervous system was functioning.
The scans showed that his nervous system was under significant stress and stuck in a fight-or-flight state. This can sometimes happen after birth stress or tension in the body.
With gentle and specific chiropractic adjustments designed to support nervous system balance, the baby’s body began to relax and regulate.
Over the following weeks, his parents noticed major improvements in his comfort, sleep, and overall calmness.
When his hospital testing was later completed, there was no seizure activity found.
Stories like this remind us how important it is to look not only for disease, but also at how the nervous system is functioning and adapting.
What Are INSiGHT Scans?
At Foundation of Stone Pediatric & Perinatal Family Chiropractic, we use safe and gentle INSiGHT scans to better understand how a child’s nervous system is responding to stress.
These scans help us see patterns that can affect how the body regulates sleep, digestion, focus, emotions, and development.
They give us three different perspectives on nervous system health.
NeuroThermal Scan
This scan helps us understand how stress may be affecting digestion, immune function, and organ balance.
It can often relate to challenges like:
-
Reflux
-
Constipation
-
Frequent illnesses
-
Ear infections
NeuroSpinal EMG Scan
This scan measures tension patterns along the spine and nervous system.
It can help explain things like:
-
Developmental delays
-
Sensory processing challenges
-
Coordination difficulties
-
Focus struggles
Heart Rate Variability (HRV)
This scan measures how well the nervous system adapts and recovers from stress.
When kids have difficulty with transitions, emotional regulation, or sleep, it may reflect that their nervous system is working overtime and having trouble shifting back into a calm state.
Understanding Stress Patterns in the Nervous System
When we review scan results, we often see patterns that help explain what families have been observing for years.
Some children show signs of a nervous system that is stuck in overdrive, which may look like:
-
Difficulty settling down
-
High energy or hyperactivity
-
Trouble sleeping
-
Anxiety or emotional overwhelm
Other children show patterns where the nervous system is less coordinated or organized, which can relate to:
-
Low muscle tone
-
Sensory sensitivities
-
Focus challenges
-
Learning difficulties
Many children show a mix of both patterns, which is why their symptoms can feel confusing or inconsistent.
Why Do These Patterns Develop?
These stress patterns often develop from a combination of early life stressors. We sometimes refer to this as a “perfect storm.“
Examples may include:
-
Stress during pregnancy
-
Birth challenges
-
Early illnesses or infections
-
Repeated antibiotic use
-
Environmental stressors
None of these things mean something was done “wrong.” They are simply common life events that can add stress to a developing nervous system.
Over time, that stress can accumulate and affect how the nervous system regulates the body.
Why Some Therapies Take Longer Than Expected
Many families we work with are already doing wonderful things to help their children:
-
Speech therapy
-
Occupational therapy
-
Behavioral support
-
Developmental programs
These therapies are incredibly valuable.
But if the nervous system is stuck in a high stress pattern, it can make it harder for the brain and body to fully integrate what those therapies are teaching. When INSiGHT scans reveal stuck stress patterns in the nervous system—a condition called dysautonomia—it explains why therapies stall. The foundation isn’t right. The nervous system is too disorganized or too stressed to fully integrate what therapy is trying to teach.
When we help support nervous system regulation, families often notice that other therapies begin to work more smoothly and more quickly.
From Guessing to Understanding
One of the most empowering parts of INSiGHT scans is that they provide objective information.
Instead of guessing or waiting to see what might happen, we can:
-
Identify stress patterns in the nervous system
-
Create a care plan that supports nervous system balance
-
Track progress with follow-up scans
Parents often feel a sense of relief simply having clear answers and a direction forward.
Your Child Isn’t Broken
One of the most important things we tell families is this:
Your child isn’t broken.
Often their nervous system has simply been under more stress than it can easily manage, and it has adapted in ways that affect how their body functions.
The amazing thing about children is how adaptable and resilient they are.
When the nervous system receives the support it needs, we often see beautiful changes in sleep, digestion, focus, emotional regulation, and overall wellbeing.
If You’ve Been Told to “Wait and See”
If you’ve been told to “wait and see,” but your parent instincts say something still needs attention, you’re not alone.
At Foundation of Stone Pediatric & Perinatal Family Chiropractic, we believe families deserve answers, support, and hope.
INSiGHT scans may help uncover what your child’s nervous system needs to move toward better balance and function.
If you’d like to learn more or schedule a consultation and scans, we would love to connect with you.
